Hedgehog prizes for best Oldway colourers

Hedgehog prizes for best Oldway colourers

Woods Bryce Baker, the Experts in Property on Torquay Road in Preston, has launched a hedgehog-themed colouring competition to help raise awareness of our prickly friend’s plight as a species now vulnerable to extinction.

With a choice of two pictures to colour, the competition is open to pupils of Oldway Primary School and their relatives. The children can download the colouring sheets from the school’s website, or they can be collected from the Woods Bryce Baker office. Entrants must pop their completed colourings into the estate agency by Monday 8th November.

Entries will be displayed in the office and photos of them posted onto the @woodsestateagents facebook page for friends and family to like and share. The one with the most ‘likes’ wins a 4-piece hedgehog house starter kit containing a timber predator-proof hedgehog house along with a 2kg bag of Brambles crunchy hedgehog food, a Hatchwell Company hedgehog food and water bowl, and a 2.25kg pack of Pillow Wad meadow superior quality hay, all very kindly donated by Home & Roost, the UK’s leading online supplier of wooden pet products.

There will also be three runner-up prizes, which are yet to be announced but are bound to run with the hedgehog theme!

Recently added to the Red List for Britain’s Mammals by the Mammal Society, it is estimated that our hedgehog population has seen a decline of more than 46% over 13 years, with reasons including road fatalities and loss of habitat due to modern farming methods, building and development.

Sarah Thomas, senior sales negotiator at Wood’s Bryce Baker, said: “The Woods Group is pleased to be involved in the Expert in Property’s campaign to help protect our hedgehogs. We’re using the ‘Hedgehog Friendly Property’ badge to highlight hedgehog-friendly properties for sale and to rent, and the colouring competition is designed to raise awareness of the issue. Follow us on facebook and get involved by sharing and liking your favourite entries.”

More information on hedgehog preservation can be found at ‘Hedgehog Street’ – a partnership project between the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) and People’s Trust for Endangered Species.
